Exeter Police and Community Choir was originally formed by serving police officers in Exeter in 1963 but for some years has attracted members from the wider community.
The choir has appeared on television and on the radio in previous years. Concerts are performed all over Devon and sometimes farther afield, enabling a host of local organisations to raise funds for their own charities.
In addition, the choir hold their own special Christmas concert in Exeter, supported by the award-winning Sidmouth Town Band, and this has raised tens of thousands of pounds for local causes such as Dream-Away, FORCE, the Exmouth Lifeboat Station Appeal, the West of England School for Children with Little or No Sight, The Chestnut Appeal and Age UK.
The lively repertoire includes spirituals, hymns, songs from musicals and other popular pieces - and, of course, Christmas carols for the December concert.
Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings at 7.30pm at Gladstone’s social club opposite the police station in Heavitree, Exeter, from September to May. New members are always welcome and no auditions are necessary.
